Join me in supporting mental health awareness!

Hi, I'm Jake, and I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be running the London Marathon on the 27th of April 2025 in support of Rethink Mental Illness.

In November 2023, I was diagnosed with depression. This diagnosis was a turning point in my life, highlighting the importance of mental health and the need for better support and understanding. Through this journey, I discovered that sport and fitness are powerful tools for improving both mental and physical well-being.

Why Rethink Mental Illness?

Rethink Mental Illness is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by mental illness. They provide crucial services, support, and information to help people manage their conditions and lead fulfilling lives. Their work includes:

- Offering free advice and information on mental health issues.

- Providing housing services, community support, and crisis intervention.

- Campaigning for policy changes to ensure better mental health care.

- Organising support groups for those affected by mental illness and their families.

How Your Donation Helps

Every donation brings us one step closer to a world where mental illness is understood and supported. Your contributions will:

- Fund vital support services that offer practical and emotional help to those in need.

- Enable Rethink Mental Illness to continue their advocacy for better mental health policies.

- Support educational programs that reduce stigma and promote mental well-being in communities.

Running the London Marathon is not just a personal challenge for me but a chance to give back and support a cause that has profoundly impacted my life. By donating, you're helping Rethink Mental Illness provide hope, support, and a better future for those struggling with mental health issues.

Thank you for your generosity and support. Together, we can make a difference.

Jake 😊

Update 3 - 16th February 2025 - 10 Weeks to Go!

Monday 17th Feb
It’s been a while since my last update so here’s a quick one. First off a massive thank you to everyone who has supported my fundraising for Rethink Mental Illness, especially Marlon, Zoe, Massey, and Mary whom I didn’t get to thank properly in my last update but your donations mean a lot!

Since starting training I’ve now run 249 miles (400 km) and with 10 weeks to go I’m in a better place than ever. The injury slowed me down for a while but I’m now ahead of where I was before and feeling stronger every week.

The countdown to the 27th of April is on and I’m pushing hard towards race day. If you’d like to support the cause any amount helps immensely!

Thanks again to everyone who’s been following along!

Update 1 - 13th August 2024

Tuesday 13th Aug

Hi everyone!

First off, a massive thank you to all who have supported my journey so far. Your donations mean the world to me and will make a significant impact on those struggling with mental health challenges.

Running Progress:

I'm thrilled to share that my marathon training is in full swing! I've been hitting my distance targets and feeling better with every run. The long runs are challenging, but I’m persevering. My most recent runs included distances up to 7km and I’m slowly getting used to longer distances with an 8km run scheduled for 15/08 and 9km on 24/08.

Ice-Hockey Playoffs & Mental Health:

In addition to running, I've also just taken part in my ice-hockey team’s playoffs, and although we didn’t quite get the result we wanted, there's something truly special about team sports—the solidarity, the shared goals, and the support you give and receive from your teammates. Ice-hockey has been a huge part of my life, and it's been a great way to balance the individual focus of marathon training with the team focus of hockey. Being part of the Solihull Vikings has been so uplifting for my own mental health, reminding me how important it is to stay connected and support one another, whether on the ice or in general life.

With the marathon 36 weeks away, your continued support means everything. Whether it’s through a donation, sharing my page, or simply sending positive messages my way, it all adds up! I’m going to keep pushing forward, both for the physical goals and for the support of the charity.

Thank you!

Jake 😊
