I'm fundraising for Rethink Mental Illness!

On the 27th of April 2025 I am participating in the iconic London Marathon to raise money for Rethink Mental Illness.

It is so important it is to have access to resources and support. That's why I am taking part in this event - to help Rethink Mental Illness continue its mission of improving the lives of those affected by severe mental health issues.

Mental health illness can affect anyone. As I found out in Jan 2020 when my physical and mental health was impacted and I had to take 3 months off work. I had never experienced mental illness before and it knocked me completely off kilter. A combination of life events and working myself into the ground culminated in my body and mind just shutting down. It took another 12 months for me to work my way back to better health but with a deeper understanding of the habits I had to break and the habits I have to maintain to ensure I look after my physical and mental wellbeing. I do that through being active and enjoy walking, running and rowing to help empty my mind from everyday stresses. I want to put being active to good use and raise money for charity!

Every donation counts towards my goal of reaching £2,000!

Your contribution will help provide vital services such as support groups, and educational resources for individuals and families affected by mental illness.

Together, we can make a difference.

My Updates

Week 15 - 34km longest training run

Friday 4th Apr
Dealing with a cold/cough last week but managed to get out there and get my longest training run done! In the sunshine! Proud of myself for getting it done.

Week 13 of training - 42km this week done!

Saturday 15th Mar
Long run of 32km completed this morning. Ran to Ashton Court Parkrun, ran PR, ran back up the hill again and around the sights of Bristol suspension bridge & harbourside. I’m glad to have broken into the 30s…feels like a psychological thing to make your body & mind feel that the full distance can be done. Only 10km on top for race day and feeling like I can actually do this! Oh and pleased to be at nearly £1300 so far! Thanks to all my amazing friends for their donations!!

Week 12 - rowing and running!!

Friday 14th Mar
Reduced my mileage last week as I was managing my rowing race which took place on Sat 8th March alongside. It’s been tiring to be training for 2 major races but still managed a 20km run last Sunday.

Week 11 of training completed

Saturday 1st Mar
Enjoyed my long run this morning - 28km done! Made some changes to my training this week which seem to have helped. 🏃 I increased my hydration over the week and drank more fluids & electrolytes. 🏃 I swapped out my intervals run on Thursday and did an erg instead. 🏃 tried my fuelling plan which consisted of electrolytes, bananas and fig rolls which all worked well. 🏃 I aimed for a steady pace of 6:30/km throughout. May be slow for others but it was perfect for me as I’m not fixated on speed. I’m focusing on getting it done! I’ve got Women’s Head of the River race 🚣‍♀️ next Saturday and will reduce the number of water sessions after so I can focus on my running in the final 7 weeks. Have also decided I don’t need to do 3 runs a week if I don’t want to and actually my body prefers the rest when doing a long run on a Saturday. Feeling positive! Thank you to those who made donations last week 🙏 keep them coming!!

Week 10 of training plan

Wednesday 26th Feb
Last week was a big step up in mileage…another 44km in the legs across three runs. Ended with a 25km run to parkrun and back with plenty of elevation! Week 11 and focusing on the long run at the weekend…28km incoming!!!

Week 8 training complete

Saturday 8th Feb
Three runs this week totalling just over 38km. Cut my run short on Tuesday as I just felt so tired. Grabbed some more sleep and ended with a 23km run today. Deload week next week which I’m looking forward to!

Training weeks 5-7

Saturday 1st Feb
Developed a niggle in my left knee so eased back on my mileage. Also, rowing has taken priority with training for Quintin Head. Back on it this week having done 31km including a half today ending at Clevedon Parkrun. Feeling tired, need more sleep! Next week will be a big push to 41km!

Week 4 deload week & 21km completed!

Saturday 11th Jan
This week was a deload week so reduction in miles to help the old body recover and minimise injury. I’m training for the upcoming Quintin Head at the same time so rowing is my cross training! Time to prepare mentally for the next 4 week training block-148km await me!

Week 3 of training plan completed!

Monday 6th Jan
Another 33km in the legs last week with 3 runs including my long run of the week running to Parkrun. Week 4 this week and it is a deload week so a chance to run some shorter distances, recover before my next 4 week training block where the mileage will increase!

42km total for this week!

Saturday 28th Dec
After weeks of feeling ill, and lots of resting, this week has been about getting back on the training with 3 training runs plus the Boxing Day run at Clevedon. 42km in the legs feels good. T-17 weeks to go!

Another long run done! Ran to parkrun, then ran my 81st parkrun.

Saturday 28th Dec
After 6 weeks of coughing, the steroids are really working well and I only coughed once on this long run!

Longest training run so far!

Wednesday 30th Oct
26km run completed last Sat…definitely getting there! Was a long push starting in the dark and running from home to Weston-super-Mare!
