I'm fundraising for Rethink Mental Illness!

I turn 60 next year. Any sensible person would have a party. Instead, I am celebrating the occasion by running the Berlin marathon on Sunday 27 September 2026!

This will be my hardest ever run. Yet many people face much tougher challenges every single day. I have seen many close friends, family members and work colleagues suffer from conditions like anxiety, depression, dementia and suicidal thoughts.

Nobody should suffer alone. Rethink Mental illness is a charity all about ensuring the right help for so many people with mental illness. I am running the Berlin marathon to raise money to enable Rethink to provide more support to the people who need it most. It is also a very apt way to raise money - running has been so important in maintaining my own mental fitness.

Whether my ageing knees can still complete a 26 mile course is another matter! To help me get around, I have enlisted the help of local personal trainer Sophie Moss. I would thoroughly recommend Sophie for all your fitness needs! Refyne Active | Discover Your Wellness Journey

Any support you can provide would be very much appreciated. All money raised will go directly to Rethink Mental Illness.

Thank you.

My Updates

292 days to go!!

Thursday 4th Dec
That's how long it is before I line up at the start of the Berlin marathon!

My running went well this year, but in 2026 I will need to seriously step up my training. Step one promises to be the coldest run I have ever completed - a 10k run along the cliff tops of Bridlington on 4 January!

After that, my training falls into three parts. Part one takes me through to the Alloa half marathon on 22 March. The route takes me through Menstrie, where the Munro family lived for many years, so the race will bring back some memories!

I'll be adding new blogs from time to time to keep you up posted on how its all going. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for my ageing knees!

Thank you for all your support.

Best wishes,

Neil
