My mental health journey
Sunday 7th Jun
I’m running Dublin 2026 marathon for RETHINK. I know what it’s like when your own mind turns against you, & no one should face that alone.
Mental health is often not considered as seriously as it should be, & is easily overlooked or dismissed. Many conditions also come with other struggles which compound the debilitating effects of poor mental health.
For decades I have suffered with OCD, & for a long time I was unable to distinguish my own thoughts from those of OCD crawling & seeping in. I have battled self-harm, eating disorders, & addiction alongside it, which grew from my feelings of loneliness, fear, & lack of understanding.
Shining a light onto mental health issues is a vital step in getting proper care for such disorders. RETHINK helps to educate & inform on mental health issues, advocates for policy changes, & campaigns for proper funding so people can access the care they deserve. Being acknowledged & understood is a vital first step for anyone suffering, & it’s how we start to feel less alone.
